Glasswool insulation is a cost-effective solution and comes in a variety of forms and high R values. Mainly in segment form and easy to cut to fit tricky situations or where clearances are required around lights, fans etc. Glasswool does tend to compress and degrade slightly over time. It lacks durability and can often be damaged during any future works/maintenance in the roof cavity.

Premium, high durability, blanket form

Products: Mammoth, GreenStuf
Polyester insulation is a premium option. It comes mainly in blanket form which creates a high-performance system. Mammoth and GreenStuf are both NZ-made options we offer. According to manufacturer's instructions polyester blanket should be installed perpendicularly to joists. As such issues arise when there is no existing insulation in between joists. In these cases, its recommended to use a cost-effective glasswool option. When joists are of standard construction and there is no existing insulation it is possible to install in between the joists. A lot of insulation providers will rip blanket to fit in non-standard situations, but this defeats the purpose of blanket-form. Note, there are semi-rigid polyester ceiling segments. Awesome product but we usually defer to blanket form for cost reasons.
