What the insulation standard requires
Rental properties must meet the Healthy Homes standards unless an exemption applies. For existing Auckland rentals, the insulation requirements generally include:
- When installing new insulation to meet the Healthy Homes standard, a minimum R-value of R2.9 for ceilings and R1.3 under suspended floors.
- Correctly fitted insulation in reasonable condition, without dampness, mould, damage or gaps.
- Checking existing insulation against the rules that apply to its installation date, condition and supporting records.
Older insulation may still meet the standard. We can check what’s there and explain whether a top-up or replacement is needed. New builds and consented renovations have separate Building Code requirements.

How Kaiser can help
Send us your property address and any insulation information you already have. We’ll assess what’s needed, explain suitable options and provide a clear quote.
We supply and install ceiling insulation, underfloor insulation and ground moisture barriers. Once the work is complete, we provide documentation for your property records. If you’re planning improvements throughout the house, we can also quote a full insulation upgrade.
